ADL-M400 + CDL3

Postby EB Turbo on Fri Apr 27, 2012 1:40 am

I have a car with an ADL and a M400. I need to add Backlight, SLM, and GPS Mapping/Beacon to the mix. I want to add a CDL3 Track kit. Will there be any issues receiving data from the M400, sending GPS data to the ADL and still having the M400 and ADL communicate?

I believe it is expensive to have Motec modify your ADL to backlit if it is not currently set with this option.

You might be able to project a string of LED's to illuminate the face of the ADL as an option.

You would need to hide the LED's behind a lip so that they only project light on to the ADL and not at your eyes.

My biggest concern is beacon function. I will just use a GPS based beacon emulator. Thank you for your help.

Hi EB Turbo

You say you want to get a CDL3 track kit, do you mean the accessory kit without the CDL3 ie SLM-C, GPS-L10, loom, two button loom and RJ45 ethernet cable?

The GPS-L10 communicates via RS232 so this will not affect your CAN based communications between the ADL and the M400.

A bigger problem is that the ADL does not really support GPS (more specifically 32bit lat and long channels) and certainly doesn't do GPS lap timing. The ADL also has very limited SLM support.

Your best bet would be to replace your aging ADL with a CDL3, this would give you full SLM control and proper GPS lap timing and channel handling.

I wanted to use the entire CDL3 track kit, display and everything. I would have mounted the ADL under the dash and use the CDL3 as the display. I could then take CAN data from the ECU and ADL for logging in the CDL3. This will allow me to utilize the GPS mapping functions. I will however not be able to use Pro analysis which is enabled in the ADL. If I were to try and send the Beacon data to the ADL that will allow me to still use i2Pro but I will not have GPS data. I cannot remove the ADL because I am logging more inputs than what the CDL can support. The GPS beacon emulator is the easiest route. I have some quotes into the customer he will make the decision on the route he wants to go.
