SYNC SENSOR LOCATION

Postby motorpower on Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:20 pm

Hello guys.
I am installing a M800 on a Nissan VQ30 engine .
The crank ref sensor is at 185 degrees BTDC,
Need to know at what position envelope should the SYNC sensor be installed ( I have the possibility to install the hall sensor trigger pin at any 360 degrees location)
Tks

Jorge,
If the sync is for the cam, then I think it needs to be in a location relative to 720 degrees.

Yes is for the cam.
I have an adjustable sprocket gear on the exhaust cam with a trigger pin on it.
Want to index this pin relative to REF sensor or TDC.
Thanks

Hi Jorge,
The sync sensor position can depend on the tooth pattern on the crank. What crank trigger pattern do you have?

Hello.
The crank sensor wheel is 36-1 teeth and a Marelli Magnetic sensor at 185 BTDC.
Tks

The most important point is that the sync sensor pulse appears half way between any two ref pulses so that there is no jump in timing caused by the sync sensor pulse appearing on the wrong side of the ref pulse.

Having your ref pulse so that it is just ahead of the most advanced ignition timing you are going to use will assist with the accuracy of the spark timing under acceleration.

Cheers

In the software download area, at the bottom, is "Utils v1.0"

This contains a neat ref/sync setup utility that can be very useful in situations like this.
Even if you can't measure the sensor clocking location exactly it will get your CRiP close enough to start the engine.
