Boost reading on SDL3

Postby supercharged88 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 7:34 am

Hi,
I was checking running values yesterday on an SDL3 i have installed on a customers car.
The ECU is a VIPEC V44 and i am obtaining the boost values for the SDL3 via Canbus from the V44.
The boost value seems to display as 8.34 all of the time.
I tried changing the displayed value from PSI, PSI G, PSI ABSOLUTE.
What am i doing wrong.
The data from the VIPEC is MAP in Kpa.
Can the data be converted to PSI and can i configure the data to also display vacuum,
EG: a -ve value.
Regards
Dave

Dave,
there are a few ways to do this, but this I found works the best.

create a 3d table and set it up as I have shown in the attached image

When you select the output channel, there isnt one called boost. So select one called 'GP Pres 1 (Med)', and use the edit button to rename it boost, and set the units as PSI.

This method will make the display show 0 whenever the engine is in vacuum, and gauge psi when it is boost, like a boost gauge would.

regards,

Jamie

Hi Jamie,
thanks for the prompt reply as usual,i appreciate it.
I will setup a 2D table as per your example.
You have stated a 3D table but the example shows a 2D table, i assume the 3D is just a typo error.

Is there another way to do this other than the 2d table setup. I am out of 2d tables.

Thanks

Do you have any 3D tables left? You could do it with a 3D table and just setup a constant on the other axis. Other than that I can't really think of another way to do it with the SDL3.

If you receive the data by CAN, you may can take the raw value and see what factor you need to change Kpa to PSI or Bar, and use the Multiplier and Divisor values on the Setup page.

For example Kpa to Psi you need to multiply KPA by a factor of 0,145038 to get Psi

So a Multiplicator of 1450 and a Divisor of 10000 should be set (0,145) and you will get approx. the values you like to see, and not waste 2D tables

You could use the 'Adder' in the comms setup if you are receiving Manifold Pressure on CAN to convert it to Boost Pressure. The only thing is you will get negative boost values when the manifold is in vacuum.

One thing to remember that if the base resolution of the dash channel is 0.1kPa then your adder becomes -1000
