Toyota 1UR-FE ref/sync setup?

Postby Shiggy on Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi

I'm going to run Toyota 1UR-FE with M800, but I'm quite not sure what REF/SYNC mode and setup I should use.

Attached is REF/SYNC pattern. seems like it's same as 2GR-FE or some other V engines.
The engine also has dual VVT.
The sync pattern does look like 4-1, but these teeth don't look like evenly spaced..

Ref mode could be mode 7, because ref is simply 36-2. But, the cam is not just one edge in one cycle.
I couldn't find OEM mode for that engine.
Will mode 7 work? and dual vvt will also work??

Let me know..

Hi Shiggy,
It looks a lot like the BMW N52 mode 43. The BMW mode uses a 60-2 on the crank but you should be able to just tell the ECU 36 crank teeth.

Have you already bought the ECU and wired it up?

Hi Mark,

ECU is currently used on other engine (3UZ-FE) at engine bench and it will be transferred to another bench which will run 1UR next time.
I have another wiring loom and I can temporary wire it up to 1UR's ref/sync to see if it works.

OK I'll try mode 43 with 36 teeth today.

Thanks

Ok,
That would be good to test, I am not sure which edge combination will be needed so you should try them all.....don't forget to reset the ECU each time you change. Keep me informed.

To test it here I would need to write that ref/sync mode for my simulator which will take time.

Wow, actually the mode 43 works. RPM reading and sync was OK.
BMW mode works on toyota engine...impressive.
I couldn't have enough time to full test though, seems like cam position reading is also working.

Engine is about to off from bench for a while and I didn't have time to test with mode 7 too.
It's still helpful if you can do tests on your side to double check with both mode 43 and 7, then IN/EX cam position reading.

Thanks

Ahh no need to test with mode 7 becasue it won't work. Mode 7 assumes a single sync tooth. Also you need the OEM mode to deal with the weird tooth spacing for cam position.

I'll write a mode for my simulator when i get the chance and let you know.

A lot of the car manufacturers use very similar modes becasue there are not so many ECU manufacturers.
