Yes, the MDC offers lots of advantages such as all four wheel's speed. The GPS from CDL3 will give me the ground speed.

I went and revisited this, and it doesn't seem to matter whether you use a diff ratio or not, correct gear gets calculated instantly. Seems that as long as the gear RATIOS entered are close to being correct, doesn't matter if its primary ratios only, or not including final drive, still works.

However you do need to turn on TC/LC (Mx00), otherwise gnd/drv speeds are not calculated and stay zero.
