Ref / Sync Problem's

Postby -Luke- on Mon Dec 19, 2011 12:02 am

Hi Guys,

This was my first Motec project and i chuffed with what i achieved so far in building a loom and map, i can see the finishing line but have one more problem to overcome before it fires up.

Ok, so i have no errors anymore, tested all the injectors, ignition, etc, and all's correct. When i turn the engine over in in the diagnostics page the Ref/Sync synchronised error goes to black and ok as i would expect but after a few cranks of the engine i get 3 new errors come up which are;

Has anyone any idea's why im getting these error's and how i can fix them? I've attached my Map for reference and below is my Ref / Sync capture, i presume they are both falling edge, was a little unsure of the Sync hall sensor.

Thanks,

One further note to add, it seems that i cant get the Ref / Sync to synchronise anymore???? Maybe it was but not anymore since i got the other errors....

Are you sure it is a Hall sensor?

Doesnt look very much like a hall signal ?

Why not give some more info ?

What car, what engine ? How many wires to each sensor ?

And take a look at the Motec Webinar about ref/syn setup. It's very good viewing.

Sync is most definitely hall. Rising edge with that Crip.

The base file I sent is a running file, all the ref sync settings are correct.

You should be using the rising edge on the sync to keep it away from the missing teeth....the missing teeth gap is the reference point you are aiming fro so having the sync edge smack, bang in the middle of it won't work.

In answer to your questions....

The Ref is a magnetic sensor, 2 wires
The Sync is a hall sensor, 3 wires
The engine is a 09-11 Yamaha R1, standard

I believe you did send me the file IDP, knowing its a running file helps me know for sure the ref sync settings are correct, i had already put the sync back to a rising edge but still getting these errors.

Looks like its not cranking over steady enough to sync up. Remove the plugs and see if it still has errors while cranking the engine over

I've used a a huge jumper battery to turn the engine over independent of the ecu to stop any voltage drop, the engine is turning over quicker than i would normally expect it needs to be to fire up. I did another Ref / Sync capture but have the same sort of erratic wave form, is that not correct then?

Im still getting the same errors of;

Error Ref Noise Tr
Error Sync Signal
Error No Sync Signal
Ref / Sync Not Synchronised

From my limited knowledge and what i've read, i recon its the ERROR REF NOISE TR thats the cause of the offer issues as this the first error to occur then the others follow suit, ERROR SYNC SIGNAL and so on.... Some times the Ref /Sync synchronise, sometimes not?

The Map is back correct again as IDP confirmed its a running file which he gave me, so no probs there.

So after my rambling, any ideas how to correct the Ref noise error, or your thoughts on what else it maybe?

Thanks,

The uneven waveform is due to the uneven firing of this engine and is normal.

They do sometimes throw up the odd error on starting but should still start.

As suggested above, take the plugs out so there is no compression, that way it will crank evenly and you can check it is syncing up.

Other than that have you checked Ign and Inj outputs all work and in the correct firing order. Don't forget they must be wired in firing order not cylinder number.

Capture from an engine which runs for comparison.
