ATEN USB-to-Serial Converter

I cannot establish connection to the ECU (M48) on laptop running Windows XP. Motec software Version 6.2
Laptop InstallShield Wizard has loaded software for the USB-to-Serial Converter as per instructions.
Connection with ECU is no problem with older laptop running Windows 98 (without USB-to-Serial cable).
Can anyone help.

Have you set the virtual COM ports up in system devices ?

You'll need to assign COM1 to the USB adaptor or it will never be seen. Or another COM port that the Motec software is able to look for.

And some USB-serial adaptors work better than others. It's just hit and miss really.
