SDL2 corrupt file

Postby supercharged88 on Tue Nov 08, 2011 9:59 pm

Hi all,
I have a customers SDL2 that i had setup in his race boat with an Autronic SM4.
The unit had been working fine in this setup.
We removed the dash when the boat was sold to make way for a new boat.
I installed the SDL2 into the new boat and connected it to an Autronic SMC ecu, all supplied by the owner.
I have changed the comms setting in the Dash Manager software to SM2-3AT and selected the appropriate data i wish to see from the ECU.
I have connected TX out from the ECU to RX pin 34 on the SDL2 and connected comms grnd from ECU to pin 37 on the SDL2.
Expecting it to work as it did before i was saddened to find it doesnt display any data from the ECU.
I had also remove analogue temp input 1 from the dash manager as i wanted to recieve the engine temp from the ECU not a seperate engine temp sensor as i did in the previous boat.
Even though i have deleted the temp input from the setup config file in dash manager and have no physical temp sensor, it still shows a temp input of 176 deg F on the dash.
The dash also shows other displayed settings which are not in my config.
I am starting to think that my config file has somehow possibly been corrupted.
Is there a way to do a HARD DEFAULT to the SDL to return it to the factory default state.
If this is possible then i was going to create a nnew config. file for the dash and try to download it to see if the dash would respond correctly.
I have also tried downloading previous config files i had for this dash from the previous boat and changed the comms settings in regards to the SMC but stills do not recieve any data from the ECU and dash still displays the temp reading as stated earlier.
Any ideas please.
We are keen to run the boat and tune it ASAP.
However without a tacho and engine temp inputs the owner doesnt wish to run it without the dash info.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Have you checked that the RS232 Baud rate from the Autronic matches the SDL RS232 Baud rate.

Could you message me your config so I can take a look at it please...

Thanks, Omar

Hi Omar,
thanks for the reply.
The Baud rates are set at 9600.
I have found the solution to my problem.
I need to insert a power amplification circuit between the SMC and SDL2 on the comms to make the SDL 2 work with an SMC 1.94.
I also need to insert a pin at position 33 in the SDL2 connector as this circuit requires the SDL Tx to complete the circuit.
The previous setup used an SM4 and did not require this modification.
I have ordered a pin kit and insertion/removal tool from MOTEC QLD.
I will post my results once completed, as i need the removal tool or new connector pin to carry out the modification.
The circuit uses 1 x 3.3k resistor a diode and a capacitor to complete,i have these components.

Hi all,
i have carried out the amplifier circuit modification and the SMC now has comms to the SDL2.
All working fine.
