Diagnostics Terminology REF/SYNC

Postby lonestarrpm on Mon Oct 10, 2011 7:30 am

M48 --

On the diagnostics page I get the following

OK REF ERROR
OK NO REF
OK SYNC ERROR
OK NO SYNC

later

NOT OK SYNC STATUS

I also get 0 RPM -- which usually means no REF signal.

What I am trying to figure out is if I am actually getting
a REF and SYNC ERROR or not.

I must say if OK REF ERROR -- means there is no REF -- you would think it would be ERROR or NOT OK.

I don't have an oscope handy == but I'm working on that.

thanks,

Don't scratch it too hard.

In the link is a wedinar on reference/sync - you cannot down load it, but watch it a couple of times.

If all else fails:
You get the pins from you local dealer. get extras, and maybe a plug as well.
For wire - get the 22-ga Tefzel (I used www.SteinAir.com)
For the crimper - I do not recall where I got it, but mine says "Duetsch HDT-48-00"

That Deutsch crimper is for the MIL spec connector pins, the M48 uses the Tyco Econoseal type connector pins, doesn't it? If so the tools discussed here are the ones.

getting closer --

now have Ref signal -- and sync signal -- but Sync Error.

I've got a Clewett Crank Pulley -- looks to be 60 tooth with extra teeth at TDC, but the sensor is 60 degrees off.

I believe I am mode 21-24 -- but I can't find any reference to describing the difference between modes 21-24 (M48)

I've watched the webinars -- but I must have missed it somewhere if it is explained.

thanks,

Mike

FWIW,

I got her running.

Turned out it was missing teeth x 2, mode 72.
