DBW for multiple throttle bodies?

Postby Chris Wilson on Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:51 am

Is there a commercially available means of driving multiple throttle bodies from the ECU using DBW, such as M series BMW's, RB26 Nissans or slide throttle assembles, etcetera? Has anyone seen this done safely and in an elegant way? Thanks.

The Motec DBW4 connects to the ECU via CAN and will drive up to 4 DBW Throttles.

I was thinking more of the hardware, whether a single motor would drive six butterflies, ans what is available for doing this. I would imagine a single drive motor is far simpler than running individual ones. I can't see much value in running each butterfly independently unless the motor was to be run on less than all its cylinders for economy and some pots needed the butterfly wide open.

Chris,
I have looked into this extensively for my own setup and surprisingly no on offers an off the shelf setup. My conclusion was to purchase a BMW M3 six cylinder DBW motor which can be adapted with a linkage arm to drive the throttle bodies, it can be integrated to any DBW pedal.
You will still need to do some fabrication work in adapting the motor mount and linkage arm but it's pretty straight forward in the scheme of things.
If anyone knows of an aftermarket system then please post here :)

You should look at Kinsler ITB setups. Single throttle cable to control usually 8 throttle bodies(being designed for V8's) They run a linkage setup similar/same as V8 supercars. Just need to mount a DBW motor to pull where the throttle cable would normally.

Without having to repeat anything, you should read my reply to Chris's other post on this subject.
