ADL2 COMMUNICATION PROBLEM!!

Postby atahankoymen on Thu Jun 02, 2011 6:40 am

Hi,

I am using an ADL2 dash on swift 008 atlantic car in us. I am using a lap top running on win XP and purple can wire to communicate with the dash, to retrieve logged data etc. Unfortunatelly, everytime i try to communicate i get this TIMED OUT message. And nothing happens. Can someone tell me why this is happening?

Thanks

A timeout message is pretty generic. Below is a list of errors from the old Parallel port days. You'd be better off with a direct USB wire or the UTC (can to USB adapter).

-> Bad CAN chip
car power is on, but cable not plugged in completely
bad cable, try another cable
-> Interface Cable not connected
cable not plugged in completely
additional software hogging port, check installed printers, especially HP drivers
-> Time Out Error
bad CAN wiring creating the communication error
this means it’s talking but something goes wrong while talking, power cycle car then try again
-> No CAN Power
car is turned off, check for 8v on pin #3 and 0v on pin#1
-> Port not Bi-Directional
computer BIOS setting should be EPP or ECP
additional software hogging port, check installed printers, especially HP drivers

A CAN cable will work with an ADL2 (doing it at my desk now). Make sure the CAN connector in the car is wired with 0v and 8v. The CAN cable is powered from the cars (ADL2s) 8v power supply. A UTC is powered from the laptops USB port so a CAN connector in the car these days is usually wired with just CAN Hi and CAN low to suit the UTC not the old CAN cable.
