Error REF Noise Tr / Ar

Postby pnanassy on Tue Sep 09, 2008 9:13 pm

Hi,

i just tried to "upgrade" my REF signal from custom 5 pulses HALL to stock Audi 135 tooth on flywheel.Im using the stock VR/Magnetic sensor with its stock bracket.I tried to set up the voltage levels and filters as recomended in the Help, but i still get these errors every time at startup:

Error REF Noise Tr
Error REF Noise Ar

What does these exactly mean?
I used shielded cable from the M600 to the sensor, which itself is also shielded.

Could you please help me with this? What informations do i have to post?

Thanks,Peter

Hope this helps.....

Copied out of the Mx00 help file

REF err Too many REF pulses have occurred between SYNC pulses.
Possible causes :
- A bad REF signal has caused extra pulses or a SYNC pulse
has been missed - check voltage levels with a scope.
- Bad REF / SYNC alignment.
- Incorrect Setup

No REF Two SYNC signals have occurred without a REF signal.
Possible causes :
- If the RPM is 0 then there is no signal - check the
wiring and sensor voltage levels with a scope.
- If RPM is not 0 then a bad SYNC signal has caused extra
pulses - check voltage levels with a scope.
- If RPM is low then the REF and SYNC signals may have been
swapped.
- Incorrect Setup

SYNCerr The SYNC signal has occurred before expected.
Possible causes :
- A bad SYNC signal has caused extra SYNC pulses - check
voltage levels with a scope.
- A bad REF signal has caused missing REF pulses - check
voltage levels with a scope.
- Bad REF / SYNC alignment.
- Incorrect Setup

No SYNC Two or more consecutive SYNC pulses are missing
- No SYNC signal - check the wiring and SYNC sensor voltage
levels with a scope.
- A bad REF signal has caused many extra pulses - check
voltage levels with a scope.
- Incorrect Setup

RefNT Noise pulse pre trigger. (See below)
RefNA Noise pulse pre arming. (See below)
SyncNT Noise pulse pre trigger. (See below)
SyncNA Noise pulse pre arming. (See below)
If possible increase the filter level.
Note that this error could also be caused by excessive
Filtering resulting in normal pulses looking like noise
pulses.

RefRnt (see below)
SyncRnt A background signal is dangerously close to the trigger
level. If possible increase the trigger levels, otherwise
reduce the background signal by modifying the trigger
system.

RefLo (see below)
SyncLo The peak signal level is lower than desirable for the
current trigger level setting. Reduce the trigger level
setting at the RPM where this error occurs.

Synced OK if the REF/SYNC system has achieved synchronisation

You have to remember that the ECU starts calculating all errors as soon as it has seen ANY RPM.....even before it has seen one complete cycle of the engine. Getting a couple of errors or warnings with in the first part of cranking is normal on most magnetic trigger systems and they will not cause any problems.

All you are really worried about is that the errors can be cleared straight away by pressing "entre" in the Diagnostic Errors View Screen. We will always wind the engine over for the first time in the Errors View Screen and hiot entre a couple of times during initial cranking to make sure the errors go away.

The Ref and Sync NT and NA will not stop the engine running by them selves. The main ones to look out for are the Ref/Sync Err and the No Ref/Sync, these errors are to do with the ECU not being able to recognize the trigger tooth pattern and these WILL stop the engine running.

With 135 teeth on the ref you will not want to have very much filtering in the Filter Table at all, especially at higher RPM. Feel free to send me a ref/sync capture at cranking and your ECU configuration to check.
