Integrated STC For Motorcycle Applications

I am buying a Motec racegrade GPS unit and would like to receive the information over the CANBUS rather than as a RS-232 signal. I heard that the integrated STC option is not recommended for motorcycles due to the higher vibrations on motorcycles. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I have been using a seperate STC for a while (but not on a motorcycle), and they look pretty damn rugged.
Unless it is a Cadillac, I would expect a race car and a motorcycle to have similar levels of vibration.

You biggest issue will likely be where the antenna goes and the fact that the constellation can change as the bike leans to-n-fro.

If it is going on a motorcycle then buy an RS232 GPS unit (part number 41303 or 41304) and couple it up with a separate STC converter (part number 61125) rather than using the GPS unit with the integral STC.

Remember to specify what the STC will be used for when ordering to ensure it has the correct settings.

Where exactly are you located?

You may want to consider using some type of SBAS if available - and I think MoTeC can switch that on.
WAAS in the US, EGNOS in the Eu, and there is another SBAS flavour for Australia and Asia-Pacific

Antenna vibrations are definitely an issue for GPS.
Velcro is not a good idea. The best place is the tail, but ensure it is rigid enough.
Based on my experiments with a EB-85A gps module on my bike, connected to M800, constellation change was not a problem on a flat track, even at high lean angles.

But the main knowledge these experiments gave me are I can't rely on GPS for drive line study. It is only usefull to correlates data events with track positions.
