SDL + SM4 + Laptop connection in parallel possible?

Postby bazeng on Fri Oct 29, 2010 10:59 pm

Hi guys,
How are you?

Just a quick question, I'm thinking of wiring up my SDL to the SM4 with another plug in order to connect the the SM4 with the laptop.

So my question is:

Can the SM4 transmit to the SDL and the laptop in parallel without any issues?

I'd like to log while tuning...

In general, the answer is no.

RS232 is between 2 devices only, you cannot add a third.

MoTeC's newer ECU's use CAN communications which allow multiple devices and a PC to all talk on the same bus at the same time.

Older style ECU's like that use RS232, and the problem you are having is part of that type of comms technology.

Thanks for the info Jamie.

I just found out a way to overcome this. The sm4 can re transmit the datastream to a secondary com port.

Ie, com 1 pc to ecu, com 2 pc to sdl.
