RSV4 Coil setup

Postby Fast_Moto on Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:30 am

I am in the process of setting up a Motec system for the Aprilia RSV4. In my past experience, the stick coils required an external ignitor. The RSV4 stick coils, however, have three inputs: +VBatt, secondary circuit to ground, and an activation signal. Does this mean that no ignitor is required to operate these coils using a Motec M880? I have attached a coild wiring diagram and excerpt of the service manual in case that helps.

From the picture, I would say amplifier is integrated on top of coil stick. But I could be wrong. With an Ohm-meter, check drive input resistance to ground and +12V. If you find very low ohms to 12V, it means they are classic coils and you need an ignition driver. If you find high ohms to ground, drivers are probably integrated to the stick.

Nice project. A M800 is also driving my RSV, but a 1060 V2

I have used these coils on a RSV4 superbike and you will need a module,

Thanks. Did you connect the outputs from the ignition module to the activation signal inputs on the coil?
