Sync Error with Modes 6/8

Postby DocFunnybike on Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:31 am

Hello,

I have just installed a M400 on my drag bike. The only problem that is left is the sync-signal. I am using a 36-2 trigger (was a 36-1 before) wheel on the belt driven fuel pump at half crank speed. The (only) sensor is a GT101 hall type. During cranking, with an external starter on the crank - I see a "not synced" and a sync-sensor error. Rpm is around 400 during cranking. On the sensor page I see a 50% sync. The capture of the signal looks ok. I see a big gap shortly after the beginning of the capture and then the pulses. The ref. voltage is 3.71 (high) and 0,018 (low). The sync graph seem to stay at 3,728 during the whole capture. May be because there is no extra sync sensor(?)
Software is 3.51U2 build 3.5.1.16

Any ideas are welcome.

Good Speed

Re: Sync Error with Modes 6/8 - Update

Hi,

in between I changed to a induktive pickup. The hall did not work with this trigger wheel. But the problem is the same. No sync or noise or both. Adjusting the filter settings or Mag Sensor Levels does not help. During cranking I get erratic rpm readings - to high or the max rpm reading is such high that the over rpm and max duty errors show up.
I have attached a picture of the ref capture.

Regards

Thomas

More informations:

I installed a different brand inductive pickup which gives a smaller signal. But nothing changes. Same errors, engine does not start.

What is your Ref/Sync Setup, could you post a screen capture of that?
Im sure that is your problem

Martin,

here is the screen. The run RPM is set to 700.

Crank Ref Teeth (CRT) is the number of teeth per revolution not per cycle, so shouldn't it be set to 18 not 36?

I tried the 18 but this did not change the problem. The M400 do not like the REF signal. The errors pop up as soon as I start cranking. Not synced, error sync signal, over RPM .....
Modes 6 and 8 do not need an extra sync signal (sensor).
The question is: What is wrong with the signal that it is not correct read by the M400?

Cheers

I finally solved the problem by (again) installing a different REF-sensor. Now I use an inductive pickup with a logic output. I think the problems came from the big starter motor which is attached to the crank nut for starting.
And indeed I had to change the CRT to 18 as the trigger wheel is at half crank speed.
Now it need some tuning .........

Thanks

What was the sensor levels and the filter values for the REF signal?
