M800 M&W ignition issue

Postby suprafan on Mon Mar 29, 2010 12:18 pm

I am running a M800 with a M&W Pro-Drag6 ignition on a Toyota 2JZ engine. When we were on the dyno we were experiening issues with the ignition where we would get a misfire at ~8200 RPMs using the ignition in waste spark configuration. We are planning on switching the ignition to sequential in hopes to eleviate this problem.

Does anyone know if running this particular ignition in waste spark mode could cause us to overheat the coils or cause any other ignition issues? Do you think that switching to sequential might solve some of our issues.

Initially we thought it was an issue with coil dwell, and lowered the dwell from 2.2ms all the way to 0.1ms with improving results, but still experienced a misfire.

Any help would be appreciated

Just looking at the spec of the unit from M&W and it says the max ignition frequency is 800Hz, in waste spark it fires at 400Hz @ 8000rpm.
Wiring as sequential shouldn't make a difference since it is well under the limit. You should still wire it sequentially tho as it is a 'waste' ;) , if you are using individual coils and two CDIs that is?

The dwell on the ECU is not important since the dwell is effectively controlled by the CDI unit, the ECU just supplies a trigger. You shouldn't have seen a change by adjusting the dwell on the ECU?? Tho i'm not familiar with the particular CDI unit.

Does the engine always miss at 8200, loaded or free rev? Will it go past this or does it completely cut out??
