1JZ-GTE 2.5L 386.2 rwkw @ 22psi HKS T51S Turbo (UPDATED)

Postby driftshop on Fri Feb 19, 2010 12:21 am

Engine: 1JZ-GTE 2.5L in a Soarer
Porting Work: Power Ported inlet manifold, mild ported head inlet and exhaust.
Cams: HKS 264 inlet/exhaust w/Adjustable cam gears
Injectors: Sard Low Imp 0.75ms lag time 800cc Side Feeds
Turbo: HKS T51S (650hp rated) journal bearing, Compressor 82mm exducer 62mm inducer with a TA45 turbine wheel that's around 64mm or 68mm exducer . Rear Housing a/r 0.90, Front housing a/r 0.72 .
Turbo Manifold: Generic stainless steel merge collector manifold that I have match ported - a custom split pulse merge collector manifold should see 100-200rpm increase in boost response.
Ignition: Motec CDI, wasted spark. ICE HEI 8mm leads.
Plugs: BCP 7 ES gapped to 0.813mm
Power: 382.4rwkw on a mainline dyno at 28psi, 340 rwkw at 20psi
Trans and Clutch: r154 manual using a Jim Berry 3450lbs single plate 5 puck carbotic clutch.
Tune: Tune is really rough, but makes the power, however the AFRs are in the 10.2-11.5 under boost. It should make more power with a better tune and be much more smoother whilst coming to full boost. Battery comp table is from the Denso 550cc USDM Supra as well as the current settings.

ECU Firmware: M800 2.3 . I have tried the 3.5 firmware and it has been a large contributing factor to many idle problems and cold and hot start. I downgraded to the 2.3 software and it has been running just as it should be with not one stall and no fouled plugs.

Please use at your own risk. The fuel and ignition map is not optimised - but it works!

thats a crazy looking fuel map. how does the car run like that?

here is the 1jz we did, with a 76mm, which is the same size turbo as the T51R

386.2 rwkw at 22psi, same turbo, map has changed. 2.3

Here's the latest map that I did on the dyno 2 days ago. Ran out of time again. Needs more fuel as it comes on boost as shown by the AFR Plot. I like your dyno graph, I may try your concept of having the fuel map setup like that.

Latest 2.3 ECU tune, still need work! 386.2 rwkw at 22psi

386.2 rwkw at 22psi. 11.5-12.1 AFR using BP Ultimate Fuel. The map in the first post was a 3.5 map converted to 2.3 (table copy) and was running extremely rich to make that power. I ran out of dyno time to finish it up. The latest tune featured in the file in this thread is more refined, but certainly looks different to your map posted :)

Regarding your map, you have a lot of fuel going in as soon as the map sensor reaches positive pressure. Is this the best way to tune for a high boost, highly revving engine?

My approach to tuning my car was to set the dyno speed at the RPM that I needed it to be at, and then approach the load sites with the boost controller / throttle and then add remove fuel to the 11.5-12 AFR. Is this the wrong way to do it?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a T04Z or GT51R from Garrett. What are your thoughts on the GT51R regarding boost response on a 1J or 2J with worked head, cams etc. T04Z i've seen make 380-425 rwkw on a 2JZ at 22psi, but that would be getting very close to their max flow at that pressure ratio. The GT51R has a lot of potential, but will I hit 20psi at 6000rpm on a 1J?

Dyno graph is attached. ECU file is attached
.
If im doing it all wrong, let me know ! This is the first car that i've tuned and im learning on my own cars to start off with :)
