Injector size for 302 Windsor

Postby otto69 on Wed Dec 23, 2009 10:28 pm

I'm putting Quad IDA throttle bodies on a 302 Windsor (aiming for ~ 400-450 hp and good looks  ) and I'm wanting to run the injectors down the middle. But with the std type injectors the fuel rails hit and wont work (I assume 30lb/hr ones are in the ball park). There are Seimens short ones that will fit but are rated at 60lbs.
Are these too big to control at idle ??
Are there any other injectors that are around the same length ??
If 60lbs is too big, how big can I go before having trouble with starting and idle control ??
Will be controlled by a M800.
Thanks in advance

On an aspirated 412 inch Chev I work on we have run 842 Bosch injectors (the CNG ones). We fitted these injectors to run alcohol blend fuels, but never got to run them, and stuck with petrol instead. These are BIG, maybe 3 and a bit times bigger than your Siemens ones, and that started and idled ok. I wouldnt say the idle quality was great, but it was ok.

So, whilst I can't say for sure that your 60lb siemens injectors will idle fine, I think it would probably be ok. As a bonus the bigger injectors will give you more scope to play with injector timing.

That all being said it really depends on how much you want that clean look! Of course 400-450 hp is a lot for a 302, so you may as well run a 347 stroker, get the power easier, and use those injectors properly ;)

Running 70 Lb injectors on a 6.0L Chev in full sequential, I dropped the base pressure a little to get more duty cycle and it idles fine.

Thanks Guys
That's good to know, looks like the 'clean look' is still a goer.
Would like to upgrade to a 3.25" stroker in the future, but for now its all std.
I'm on a very steep learning curve at the moment, so there will be a few more "basic" questions to be had.
cheers
