M4 problem, "SUU connected or ECU not Enabled"

Hi there,

I have recently bought a Yamaha R6, and the ECU is a Motec M4, serial# 4333.
The bike was used in WorldChampionship SuperSport 2005 by Yamaha Germany with the rider Broc Parkes, and has not been used very much since then.

Yesterday we put it on the Dyno, and after some runs the bike was not able to start.

We connected the PC via serial-port.
While trying to retrieve the internal log, it just wrote 'Connect ECU'.
The ignition was on, and some hours before we were able to connect and adjust without problems, so we knew the cable/pc was working correct.

When we entered the Adjust-menu, a warning-signal flashed this text 'SUU connected or ECU not Enabled'

I've looked in these forums, and found some other with similar problems.
The suggestion was to use the send.exe, and then we did just that.
It send some information to the unit, and after that everything was ok.
Then we upgraded from 6.12 to 6.20, in the hope that the problem would go away.

The bike started and run just fine, but when we took the power off/on, it entered the faulty state again.
We could not start the engine, and the 'SUU Connected or ECU not enabled' displayed again.

How do I remove this error ?
The bike is not run-able, if I have to run send.exe everytime I want to use the bike.

There might be a problem with the ECU as this should not be hapening. The problem you have described sometimes happens when there is a comms error during an upgrade but once it has been resolved it should not happen again as it is in your case.

The ECU will need to be returned to MoTeC for checking and repair, if necessary. To do this you will need to take the unit to a MoTeC Dealer who will be able to arrange for it to be sent back to us.

Anything I could try, before shipping it for repair ?
Upgrade again, upgrade in another way or ?

Talked to my local service center, and the unit is now on the way to MoTeC UK for test/repair.
Will post result later.

MoTeC UK service centre was not able to reproduce the error, so the unit is on the way to MoTeC Australia for further testing.
Hopefully the error will be located and fixed.

When we connect the M4 to the bike, it will start and run fine.
After 30 minutes of mapping (DYNO-run -> ignition off to stop the bike -> ignition on to adjusting M4), suddenly the bike fails to start.
When entering the Adjust-menu, it responded with "SUU connected or ECU not Enabled".

To wake the M4 up from it's coma, we executed 'send.exe' and then everything was ok again.
It did not help to power-cycle the unit, disconnecting from the wire-harness, stressing all connectors - only positive way to wake it up for us, was to execute 'send.exe'

Then we continued DYNO'ing, and when we stopped the bike to adjust the M4, we were again not able to power up.
Executed 'send.exe' again, and it woke up.
This could be repeated all day long - it took quite a long time to finish the mapping, and it will be horrible to go racing if I have to connect the PC and execute 'send.exe' when the bike is hot and I have to enter the track.

Update.

MoTeC Australia located the problem and has now fixed the unit.
My dealer told me, it was a circuit-board that was damaged from vibrations.
