MOTEC SDL with AUTRONIC SM4 1.09

Hi Guys,

I have an AUTRONIC SM4 and will be using a MOTEC SDL to log / monitor the engine.

I have all the wiring diagrams etc and just needed confirmation with the wiring.

I am assuming

AUTRONIC______________|____________________MOTEC
SM4 1.09_______________|____________________SDL

RS232 RX - pin 5 (db9)___|____________________TX/TELEM - pin33
RS232 TX - pin 2 (db9)____|____________________RX - pin 34

Is this correct?
I could only find the AUTRONIC pinouts from the AIM DASH documentation.
The SM4's use a stereo jack loom which converts it out to a db9 connector hence the db9 pinouts.

With an Autronic SM4, you need to hook up 2 wires.

You connect the Pin 2 on the Autronic D9 (TX) to pin 34 on the SDL (RX).
You also need to hook up pin 5 (which I believe you will find is Ground, not RX)to Pin 37 (0v)

Not absolutely sure about the 0v, when I last did this, I believe that the SM4 wont transmit without the 0v connected, I don't know why.

Perhaps try just connecting the SM4 Tx to the SDL Rx, and see how that goes. If it doesn't work, hook up the 0v...

My mistake Jamie.

The AIM install details I have are somewhat corrupt and the text is all over the place.

Pin 5 is actually is the gnd on the SM4 DB9 side, not RX.

So it should be:


AUTRONIC______________|____________________MOTEC
SM4 1.09_______________|____________________SDL

RS232 GND - pin 5 (db9)___|___________________GND - Pin 37 (0v)
RS232 TX - pin 2 (db9)____|____________________RX - pin 34

Hi guys,

Just a quick question.

How do I obtain the values from the SM4?

I'm assuming its from the Channel:

DATASTREAMS
OR
ECU - Generated Channels

Now,
DATASTREAMS contains JI587
and
ECU - Generaged Channels contains a bunch more values but doesn't contain (MAP or BOOST)

Where can I obtain all my ECU generated values?

I have already enabled the SM4 input by:
->INPUTS
-> Communications
-> RS232
-> Autronic SM4

Ok,

I connected it up.

I just used the unused channels button to find the required channels.

Seems to be working fine!

Pins 2 & 9 on the DB9 connector are good.
