As the subject suggests, I'm looking for a top notch tuner in Melbourne.

I'd also appreciate approximate costs of the following

1) Initial setup - REF/SYNC are there, all the inj and coil outputs have been checked as ok as has the TPS and MAP. So it's now time to set fuel & spark timing/duration and setup for mild boost (7 psi).
7 analog outputs also need to be setup. The motor has a variable intake resonance system, no egr, 8 injectors (4 cyl, not hi-lo), IAC, boost noid, shift indicator etc

Once the motor has a few hours on it
2) Street tune - Basically clean up the initial tune and adjust for 10 psi

3) Strip tune - 2 Bar of boost optimised. 125 HP shot of N2O progressively delivered

I'm sure there will be heaps of suggestions, so to make it easier I'm in the Outer Eastern burbs of Melbourne, the car will be flat topped to and from the tuner (costs per km).

Leaning towards Simon (Nizpro) as he has a good rep for squeezing every last bit out of the M800 but would appreciate a heads up on the cost of this endeavor 8-)

Also is there more that I can do statically to reduce the tuneup cost, settings wise?

Dear Bazz, may i suggest someone from MoTeC?? I think that they know best to "squeez" any M's ECU. I would give anything to have under my house MoteC guys! ;) ;)

Hi Bazz,
If you can give me a bit more information on what you have it would be helpful. Any of the approved MoTeC dealers that mostly do ECUs would be fine. Probably plenty of other people around but I can obviously only recommend people who are listed on our web site as approved delaers.

The best thing to do would be to start ringing around (unless some of them are on this forum) and have a chat.

It is always good to do the ECU seminars because they will teach you the basics of getting an engine started, all this setup is going to cost money if you have someone else doing it.

M800 in a 99 MX-5
Primary injectors = 440 cc
Secondary inj = 550 cc
MSD Multi-spark coils x4
GT 3071R turbo
125 HP shot of N2O

My dealer is Gary (GR Motorsport) and his speciality is the wiring, not the tune.
Although Simon isn't an "Approved Dealer" anymore, he is highly recommended, but I'm open to other suggestions.

It's nearly idling now, ready for more tweaking. Having said that an email is probably sitting in your inbox re the seminar ;)

Hence my asking if there was more I could do. Noone has given me any indication of what this will cost.
Is it possible to get someone else's basic maps for the NB8A MX-5 rather than continuing to tweak this file?

Well Lee Burley from Melbourne Performance Center is just around the corner from Simon and is a MoTeC approved dealer AND used to work for Simon......sounds perfect. :)

I have a friend who is a bit of an MX5 nut and uses our sruff a lot so I'll ask him if he can supply something....he may even be on this forum somwhere.

Thanks Mark,

Well I've just spent the morning talking with Simon and Lee.

Simon has given me loads of info on the product, company and hints. Thanks Si. He will probably get the ongoing tune.

Having said that, a big thanks Mark for putting me on to Lee. I have spoken with him previously when I was setting up the MSD coils (and think I may have met him at Nizpro once, ages ago).
Top bloke, genuine and actually willing to put some costs on the work of setting it up. He will be doing the initial setup and at least the street tune. They have a good setup there with all the fuels and gases I would need for the high HP setup so I may even stick with them.

I'll keep you posted on progress. It should be on the dyno in a fortnight today :mrgreen:

Mark, if you could chase those setting from your contact it may make Lee's job a bit easier, cheers

Thanks for the offer Mark, we already have it sorted. I had to change the ref/sync to mode 2 due to some dodgy cam gears. Then I seized the inlet cam due to lack of oil :cry:

Keep it on file for the next MX5 ..... there will be more 8-)
