How to connect E888 to M800 PnP

Postby 07-EDM-STI on Tue May 19, 2009 3:47 pm

hi,

I like to buy E888, but I don't know how to connect it to M800 PnP.
I have a few questions about it.

1. Does it connect via communication or CAN cable? If yes, is the wire included or do I have to buy special wire loom for that?

2. I know that the output of E888 will not work with M800 PnP, but will the M800 be able to react with the inputs to the E888 say the oil pressure is dropping at high rpm, or the fuel pressure is not enough and can the M800 cut the rpm to avoid engine damage?

3. There are 8 thermocouple inputs to E888, do I need TCA or thermocouple amplifier if I put type K TC for EGT?

4. Is there any other wiring harness included with E888? I mean how would I connect sensor signals to it?

Thanks in advance :)

You will need to make up a wiring loom for the E888. The E888 is sold as a unit only, all of the wiring components are sold seperately. It is connected to the ECU via CAN. This can be done by spicing into the comms connector wiring. You need to make sure that the wiring conforms to the MoTeC CAN Wiring recommendations (you will find this in the M800 manual). The M800 Plug-in has a CAN terminating resistor on the adaptor board.

You will not need to use thermocouple amplifiers with the E888, you can connect the thermocouples directly.

Once you have channels being sent across to the M800 you can use these in the same way as any other M800 channels as axis on tables etc.

Hi Ross,

Thank you very much :D

Will this CAN cable work? Can I use this and splice it with the CAN cable I have?

http://www.m-cal.com/Products/MC78-3610 ... rom-device)

I saw this cable, I believe the two black connector will fit the E888,

http://www.m-cal.com/Products/MC79-3610 ... terminated)

it's just the wires that comes with it is too long and too many for what I need since I can't use the output function of the E888. Can I buy just the 2 black connectors that will connect to the E888? I'm having difficulty looking for the proper connectors.

My friend from UK just moved there in Australia lat May 9, it might be easier for me if I can find a Motec dealer there in Australia and ask him to buy the connectors for me.

Neither of these cables are suitable. The E888 uses the same connectors as the M800 but the wiring requirements are different. MoTeC Drawing #A17 shows the E888 wiring. You can buy the necessary connectors and wire to make a loom but you will also need the correct crimping tools to assemble it. If you do not want to do this yourself I would recommend that you contact a MoTeC Dealer or someone experienced in this type of wiring and get them to make up a loom to suit your requirements.

I tried searching for the wiring drawing of E888, but I found E816 only

thanks Ross :D

I downloaded more files that just the E888 so I can learn about the other motec products as well.

m motec dealer haven't replied yet, I was asking if they could supply me with the E888 connector and with the CAN wire to splice to the CAN wire I connect to M800. I guess the motec distributor is a bit busy, also bad timing for me right now since UK pounds went up compared to our Philippin peso

I found a motec dealer who can supply me the connector for the E888, how to I connect it? As I understand the diagram, I will connect the E888 to the comm/CAN cable but I don't know which of the 4 wires to splice it to, and which pins of the E888 to connect to which wire color of the comm/CAN wires
