Toyota 2AZFE Start Issue

Postby Khalifa_ae on Thu Dec 11, 2025 6:11 am

Hello,

I am currently experiencing an issue with the startup of a 2AZ engine (M130 GPR). I have attached the relevant package along with a capture during the cranking attempt (UDIG1&2) for your review.

The problem surfaced while conducting an output test for the injectors and ignition, where both tests yielded no response. I have thoroughly checked and verified wiring continuity and resources. Additionally, I performed a physical inspection of ignition coil #1 by connecting an external spark plug, but unfortunately, I did not observe any spark. Could you advise on the conditions under which the output tests for the injectors and ignition would be blocked or non-functional?

Moreover, during cranking, I noticed the engine speed reference blinking, indicating a search or pattern lock, with no cycle lock displayed.

I would greatly appreciate your guidance regarding the package settings and analysis. What might be causing these issues?

The engine code is Toyota 2AZFE - VVTI (on intake cam only), which was not found in the drop list. I selected four strokes with two missing teeth as the engine reference and assigned Sync UDIG2 to the inlet cam.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards

A couple of things jump out at me

- the UDig2 signal in the input capture should be configured as rising edge. The Hysteresis value at cranking speed should be about .3 volts at cranking speed. You have 1.0v currently.

- The cam pattern is a 3 tooth (4-1) pattern.

- This looks like the Engine Speed Reference Mode should be the Toyota 2ZZ (36-2, 4-1 VVT cam). Note that this mode specifies falling edge cam signal, you either need to reverse the wiring going to your cam sensor, or change the setting to be rising edge.

As for why the injection / ignition tests don't work -make sure that Engine Output Test Engine Speed is non-zero (like 500 or 1000 RPM). Your current package has this value as zero.
