Battery Disconnect in Ground Circuit

Postby Hesco109 on Tue Dec 17, 2024 3:38 am

We are required to use battery disconnects in our racing organization. We typically break the Ground circuit. My question is regarding opening the ground circuit while the vehicle is running. Are there any issues, concerns, or harm to any of the MOTEC electronics if the engine is running and the battery disconnect is opened, breaking the ground circuit?

I disconnect the ground on my race cars. No particular issue, other than the normal one of alternator supplied power.

So you still will want to separately either signal the ECU with the Engine Run Switch, or disconnect the coil or injector power in order for the engine to stop running and typically this will cause the alternator to stop providing power (axle driven alternator will have to at least slow down...).

Cartek XR is safe, and you can offer the ecu a signal to shut down whatever is needed prior to full disconnect.

Or MSEL is another
