There are a couple of ways to achieve this.
The easiest way that I normally use is to setup a 2D or 3D table in dash manager. (Normally 3D if you want the brightness switch to dim the screen but also have a keypad or similar to adjust the brighness further, or 2D if you just want the brightness switch to be the only trigger to change the backlight).
Setup an axis with the headlight switch, and the output channel as 'Backlight Brightness'.
If you do this, you can have a table with 0 and 1 for the switch input on an axis, and then specify the brightness for each switch state as a percentage (say 100% for switch state 0 and 20% for switch state 1).
Send this channel to dash manager by adding it to your channels list, and then in display creator, create a backlight control in the functions tab, and set it to use the channel that you created as the input.
