Help needed with M4 aux ignition COPs

Postby w460 on Sun May 12, 2024 10:45 pm

Hi to all!
Can you please help me to config for th m4 ecu in the case when there is no CAMshaft Sync sensor but there is 6 COP ignition (individual coils)?

I have only 4 aux`s: 1 (1A) for FP relay, 2(0,6A) for idle control, 3(0,6A) of slave idle control, 4(0,6A) for last IGN4.

Is it possibe to do this ? Or without sync sygnal it is needed to control COPs by the only IGN1 output? What solution needed in that case?

My best regards!

Can it be done? Yes, but you will send more time and effort to get it working well, than the cost of replacing the M4 with a modern ECU that can directly control all of the injectors and coils.

You will need an IEX, this must be wired to IGN1 to work correctly. The injectors can be wired as batch fired and the number of cylinders would be set to -6 to enable 2 stroke mode.

Stephen! thank you for the reply! Unfortunately now i have only M8 also as an opportunity to buy but it seems that camshaft sensor is highly needed. I will invent it today and add to my system. Can i ask for a opinion about the camshaft pattern? Crankshaft is 36-2:

Any ECU on the Market will need a Sync sensor of some sort to be able to operate in a sequential mode, not just the MoTeC ECU's. You can have camshaft mounted "crank" triggers but this is not recommended.

36-2 is a common crank trigger pattern and is acceptable to use.

Stephen, please be so kind to guide me- if i will try to use only cranckshaft sensor -what ignition module you can recommend? to change COPs on it.

OR maybe easier to use another idle valve to free the AUX3 from slave dle for the IGN3.!
I suppose another valve will be the much less effort needed way.

My best regards! Thank you !

Hi,

No matter what you do, you will have to compromise how you set this up if you use the M4. You could use a single wire ICV so that it only needs one Aux output.

If you have COP's, they should have internal ignitors, if not, then you will need to source ones that are compatible with the COP's that you have. The M4 doesn't require a specific ignitor. The IEX IS NOT and ignitor replacement, it multiplex's the single Ignition Output to drive multiple coils, but if you have dumb coils, then you will also need to have an ignitor for these coils as well as the IEX 4.

Stephen , may you give me any example of ICV? Bosch 0280 140 516 will fit?
I have COPs with internal ignitors bosch 0221604800

Stephen, please , tell me - "NOTE A" it means that it is impossible to use wasted spark mode (3 banks of paired COPS) without SYNC sensor?

That should have been injectors wired as batch fired.

I do not know which ICV would work with your engine, it's been a number of years since I installed one, normally I'm removing them as a DBW throttle has been installed instead.
