M8 Connection Problems

Postby Olivert on Sun Sep 28, 2008 2:28 am

Hi,

I am having a bit of difficulty connecting to an M8 Mil ECU. I am using a Thinkpad T43 and am connecting using all the correct leads. I think my problem lies in the fact that I do not have a 9 pin serial port on this laptop. I have purchased an adaptor to convert from the 9-pin serial to a USB. Windows XP recognises the connection to the ECU as a Mouse (and goes a bit haywire!) But on starting the EMP I am unable to connect to the ECU. Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Oliver

Boot the laptop up before connecting the PCI cable to the M8.
Make sure infared ports are turned off in the laptop bios as they get assigned to com1
Check that the serial port is com1 if not set this in the laptops bios.

Thank you very much - that is precisely what it was. It was a USB device and when plugged in it was assigned COM3 - now assigned to COM1 and I can connect and download.

Cheers,
