Gold motec ecu

Hey everyone not sure if this is in the right place ive come across an old gold box motec. I no nothing about it or even what it was configured for etc.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it please pictures attached. I would like to use it if possible on my boosted application

Hi,

This is a 2 Group ECU that was manufactured in April 1991, it has very minimal support for any current engine, there is no boost control functionality and the injectors are fired in batch fire. There is also no support available for these ECU's due to their age, and they are almost impossible to tune due to the lack of PC connectivity or the hand controller that it is designed to be used with.

What tuning software would I use to make the adjustments. I carnt open the zip file . Is there a pin out for the ecu harness of some sort of somewhere for more information that I can read , I was planning on using this on a 4 cylinder injection engine

Hi,

I have attached the contents of the zip file for you, this includes the software (will not run on a current laptop, will need something like Window95 to work). There are also wiring diagrams for the ECU.

You will have a lot of struggles to get this ECU to run on a current engine.

Hi there doesnt appear to be an output for the fan? is the ecu clever enough to run without idle control valve?

for map and iat sensor i assume i can use something generic that matches the amount of wires on the ecu itself ?

also the injectors you mention before there in batches so will have to work out the firing sequence .

also there what appears to be aux slots for optional extras?

but before i go any further i would assume i would not need to power up ecu to the car but use the rs232 connector to a computer to see it works/ communicates ? do you have any notes for the distributor wiring and module for the wiring up set up

Hi,

The model type is 2 Group. These are 4 generation old ECU's, we have had the M4, Hundred series and now M1 ECU's since these where first made, and are really suitable for old engines like the Rover 3500 V8 from early Range Rovers.

This ECU is really not suited to what you want to do, It was not designed to work with a turbo charged engine as it doesn't recognise manifold pressures above atmospheric, it only supports limited injectors and sensors and is usually used on an engine that has a distributor.

I would not recommend using this ECU, unless it was replacing an existing installation that is already using a 2 Group ECU.

No worries can only ask Don't ask will never n o. Just out of interest what is the limit of the injector size? Also I'm on a distributor set up on a 1995 engine. You say there is limit support for the engine. What was the limited support? Why carnt part upgrades be bought for it

Limited support = I have reached to limit of support that I can offer for this hardware with the responses supplied.

All of the corporate knowledge that we have for these units has been supplied, I do not have any more information, nor is there anyone in the building that has that information available as the staff that had involvement in these units have all retired or moved on.

There are no upgrades available to purchase for these units as they never had upgrades available, the hardware was bought "as is" and used as supplied.
