Convert from WRX7/8 Plug-In to WRX5/6

Postby Phil on Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:24 pm

Hey there,

I have got a, to my knowledge, M800 Plug-In for WRX7/8 (Product Code: 13003-10074). It came out of a 2002 WRX. I intend to use it on a 1999 Forester GT (WRX5/6) with an adapter ECU header harness.
Apparently, the ECU was locked and couldn't be unlocked, so it got wiped.

Questions:

1. Is it possible to make the adapter harness so that it will connect to the same M800 pins as described in DVIN0009 M800 OEM WRX56 Installation Document.pdf?

2. Would the ECU need a different firmware?

3. I have not powered up the ECU yet. What would it mean if an ECU is wiped?

4. What options are activated on ECU 13003-10074?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Phil,

1, If you are having the adapter harness made, and I am presuming that you can get hold of required header connectors for the loom and ECU plugs, then this will just be a matter of connecting the wires to the correct pins.

2, Possibly, Not having used one of those boards in a unsupported model I do not know what changes would need to me made to support the different vehicle. It may also be that some functionality will not be supported.

3, It will have the base map for that model loaded into it.

4, This M800 has only the base enable, no additional functions are enabled.

On the adaptor board, there may be issues with track current carrying capacity of outputs as well as possible extra circuitry on them as they were designed for a specific use on the WRX7/8.

This is also true for the inputs on the adapter, requiring extra circuitry to make the installation work on the WRX7/8.

This may interfere with the operation on the forester installation which could possibly damage the adaptor.
