Which M1 ECU for BMW S85 (V10 M5) Engine ?

Postby Kam on Fri Jul 22, 2022 7:11 am

Hi,
The car is BMW E36 with a S85 Transplant, Manual Transmission
What ECU is best suited to run this engine successfully ?
What the total cost will be with a complete wiring loom included ?

Thank You

Hi,

An M150 will have enough resources to cover all of the requirements of your S85. That being 10 injectors, 10 ignition coils and VANOS on all cams.

There's a few specific details regarding this engine such as the throttle actuators outputting the position on CAN rather than a more traditional analogue voltage. Another notable feature is the knock sensing system which is quite unique to this platform

To use one of our general purpose firmware packages you would need to modify or replace the throttle actuators as GPA and GPR don't support receiving throttle position signals via CAN.

Alternatively there are MoTeC Dealers who have developed their own M1 firmware specifically targeted at the S85 which may be more suitable depending on which way you want to go.

Calibrated Performance offer an S85 engine swap firmware package for the M150, I would recommend reaching out to them.
