m3 e46 coils

Postby Lutek on Tue Apr 12, 2022 2:27 am

Hello,

Anyone have info about stock m3 e46 coils if they are active or passive and can work with m150?

Thx

Hi,

Do you have a part number for the coils that you are using? Searching for M3 E46 coils comes back with a couple of options but the main one that I have found is the Bosch 0 221 504 464 that we have a calibration for.

These coils require an external igniter (such as the IGN4) as they are a "dumb" coils.

Hi,

Thanks for answer

They were passive.

Just for quick solution I used audi coils.

But I have one more question actually. Do you know if stock DBW motor can be driven without dual half bridge module? as I have wired directly form m1 for now and I was wondering if it will be fine.

A bridge output on the M1 ECU is sufficient to drive a DBW motor. the ECU HB outputs are rated for 9A high side and 12A low side which is more than sufficient to control a DBW motor.

Yeah I can read technical data. In past this car had ecu master and their dual half bridge because I was told this motor is able to take up to 20 A. it has this rod driven Itb's. emu black is capable of Full bridge up to 7A so I took as granted that M1 will hold it

I was just courious if it won't overheat output

Hi,

What motor is it that you are using?

The M1 series ECU can easily run that throttle system.

Things to avoid:
excess friction of the steel rod that runs across the top of the aluminum throttle bodies, and
bouncing the throttle of the bore.

Realize that the two throttle sensors are not perfectly linear in relation to each other. Care should be taken when setting them up to minimize errors between the two readings.

Have fun.

Yeah, using sensor connected to shaft on butterflies was useless and voltage translation was horrible at low throttle opening. Ended up using only sensor on motor which provided reasonable voltage translation just twice I’ve had issue with tracking aim values at idle as m1 output was 80% duty and motor didn’t move at all as it was stuck in that position. I’ve changed some settings to have bigger tracking tolerance and some other setup and didn’t have that issue again
