Automatic Transmission control

Postby rayhall on Mon Dec 20, 2021 3:45 pm

Hello,
I have a A7540E Toyota Hilux automatic transmission in my car. I am using a stand alone transmission controller to shift gears. It is not very good. I want to replace the Vipec ECU running the engine with a M1 series ECU. Is it possible to also control the transmission. The A750E and A750F are the same as far as control goes I believe. Four solenoids control to gears and a PWM to control oil pump pressure.

Hi Ray,

To my knowledge, those transmissions contain 7 solenoids, not 5:

1x torque converter lock up solenoid
1x line pressure control solenoid
2x 3 way shift solenoids
2x clutch control solenoids
1x additional shift solenoid

This takes up a large portion of the output resources for the M1 ecu, and once you add the input and output shaft speed sensors, trans fluid pressure and temp sensors and range selector sensors, it doesnt leave many resources to run the engine.

The control strategy in the GRP-AT firmware will not control this transmission. The required strategy requires custom firmware, as it is not straight forward.
