Before we go into 2020

Postby Dav on Tue Dec 31, 2019 11:43 pm

.. I'd like to do some feature requests :D

- Option to hide channels that aren't available in graphs (rather than grey them out)
- Option to colour key elements/graphs backgrounds individually to help with coaching/reference
- Option to add notes to a graph; show as mouse-over text or have a small toggle button on each graph to show/hide notes
- Scale graphs for variance_distance channels accordingly (doesn't work at the moment)
- Scale graphs for a predefined (master) channel rather than the lowest and higest value when using multiple channels in a single graph group
- Colour channel for line graphs like scatter plots
- Flip_flop with a distance option
- In workspace maths conditions: the option for OR as well as AND (current)

That's it for 2019 ;)
Have a great new years eve and best wishes for 2020.

Option to hide channels that aren't available in graphs (rather than grey them out)

I'll add this to our system, but I'm not sure it will get accepted. It is possible this will add more confusion when channel names don't match up and the graph is empty rather than a greyed out channel.

Option to colour key elements/graphs backgrounds individually to help with coaching/reference

Can you give me an example of what exactly you want to do here? Do you want to change the background of a particular T/D graph in a worksheet?

Option to add notes to a graph; show as mouse-over text or have a small toggle button on each graph to show/hide notes

It is a bit annoying to access (I already have a ticket in our system to make this easier to do) but you can already add notes. Right click on a T/D graph, go to Cursor>Add Annotation

Scale graphs for variance_distance channels accordingly (doesn't work at the moment)

Can you send me an example of this not working? It seems to work fine for me.

Scale graphs for a predefined (master) channel rather than the lowest and higest value when using multiple channels in a single graph group

I'll add this to our system. Can you give me an example of when this is useful.

Colour channel for line graphs like scatter plots

I'll add this to our system but it is a bit of a tricky one. The problem is when you have multiple channels in a group or multiple overlays it would become very difficult to see what is going on.

Flip_flop with a distance option

Can you give me an example of how you want it to work with distance?

In workspace maths conditions: the option for OR as well as AND (current)

This is already in the system to be fixed.

I understand but for me this could make things less cluttered when using the same worksheet for different cars. Because things get cluttered, I'm currently using multiple copies of the same worksheet and that's a little annoying to maintain.

Colouring a background per channel group could be a option but on second thought that might be too much/obnoxious. As long as it is easy for another to understand which graph you're talking about when you say 'the yellow graph' for example. Just the colour of the lines or datapoints as distinction is not always clear enough. Especially when you're coaching remotely via screen-share and there's quite a lot on display.

Annotations are tied to individual logged data files, not to a motec workbook or elements of it. Also they're set at a specific point on the T/D cursor. My suggestion is to have a 'notes'-tab in the T/D graph properties and display a small 'notes/information' icon at the top left of a graph (alongside the Y axis).

I am aware that we now have 'Notes' and I use those as well, but the issue with those is that it always takes up precious screen space.

I hope this is sufficient: https://gyazo.com/cc3e18d19c198e5d62d4fc1699238512

I'll add this to our system. Can you give me an example of when this is useful.

For example in a line graph: I always like to put channels that affect a particular other channel in the same group. But I'm really only interested in what that other channel does in terms of deflection. Currently you can choose 'hide channel', and that will hide it's line, but the value of the hidden channel will still affect the scaling of the graph.

Right now I have to create separate maths and select channels in a channel group to overlay them as a workaround. You can see it in the brake and throttle trace of the Gyazo gif I posted above.

I often use it together with time_shift so I got a bit confused. Distance_shift is what I'm looking for (which is currently not a function).

Cool :)

Thanks for the information, I will add this to the feature request tickets I've added to our system.

I can't guarantee that the features will get added, but they will definitely be discussed and then prioritised with all of the other features/improvements we work on.

I had this unchecked :oops: :

Couple of things to add to the list:

For Scatter Plots;
The ability to have load all outings/selected outings like in Channel Reports
The ability to choose thicker larger points (scatter properties > display > draw style > point)
The ability to over-extend by X percent to improve readability. Right now points get drawn on the outer edges in the scatter plot.

For Channel Reports;
The ability to choose which items you want to show in the chart and which you only want in the table.
The ability to have custom labels rather than channel names to allow shorter names and keep table spacing compact. (I currently have to do this via Channel Alias)
The ability to put the header row under 45 or 90 degree angle to allow longer names and keep table spacing compact.

Maths that include variance;
The ability to mirror/display the result value in Main rather than only in Overlay.
