CAN Devices Distance

Postby junnan yue on Tue Sep 10, 2019 1:28 am

Hi All
On MoTeC Mx00 series user menu say 500mm is the maximum distance from CAN device to the trunk.
What happens if I have the CAN device is 1m from the main CAN bus?

Thanks a lot!

You will exceed the spec, but it is likely to work.

Thanks for helping.
But what I should do to make it work if the distance is more then 500mm.

What you need to do is extend the trunk.

Instead of splicing onto the trunk, break it there and extend both legs until the are within 0.5m of your device, splice at that point. Often you can make this right at the back of a connector for a device.

Hi,

How much longer than 500mm do you want the trunk to be?

Exactly. Otherwise known as making the main CAN bus run "in and out" or "back and forth" until a foot before the sensor, dash, or other CAN bus item.
