Hello, I have left over from a client a ADL Dash which I want to use on my personal car, and I would like to be confirmed what options are enabled and if it's a backlit model or not.
And another thing, I have managed to connect to it but i am not able to update the firmware with the latest ADL one, the 'update dash' option is blurred (in grey) Thank you.

Hi,

That Dash has the following upgrades:
4M Memory
50 I/O
Pro Logging
Telemetry
Remote Logging

Because of the age of the device (it's more than 20 years old) we are unable to tell whether it is back lit or not. The best way to tell is to remove the back plate of the device and take a photo of the board for me.

Just be aware that there are different length screws used in the back cover and you need to make sure they go back in the same location you took them out of.

What version of ADL Manager are you using to talk to the dash?

Hy Adrian, here are some pictures. Note, that on the connector, there is a wire attached to pin number 6
The version of Dash Manager i'm using is 3.2.0.152 with the 3.20U HEX file. Dash manager tells me that the dash needs 3.20P HEX file. And i was not able to find on the website under old releases a dash manager version that matches with 3.20P HEX file. Thanks again.

Unfortunately that unit doesn't have the backlight module installed.

How are you connected to the Dash? Via CAN or Serial?

If you are connected via serial it won't let you do a firmware upgrade, you need to connect via CAN to be able to do that.

You can download 3.20P from here if you wish to continue using that version but I would recommend upgrading to the latest version.

I'm using the UTC to connect to it. Is there a way to wire an external module ? Or are you referring to the actual leds inside.

Or is there a way to upgrade it have backlight? if i send it to a motec dealer ?

It is possible to upgrade it to have the backlight, but you are probably better off selling it and purchasing a colour display. If you contact a MoTeC Dealer they will be able to give you pricing information.

Can you do anything else to the dash other than upgrading the firmware? Can you monitor channels, send/receive configs?

Everything else work fine, Reading/writing configs, i/o, logging,display setup, etc. Just the update is blured. But i think i will instal the 3.20P one for how. But one more thing, how can i find out what was wired in pin nr.6 in the conector, is it possible for the dash to have had an external backlit inverter? I saw that i can get them for like 150euros. Will it work if i get one of thoes

When you connect to the Dash, pull the config out and have a look at the input setup. You can then see what is configured for each pin.

Yes you will need a backlight inverter but it is included in the price when you get the display upgraded. The actual board needs to be upgraded as well so you can't just buy the inverter to get it to work.

Pin #6 is defined a a 'spare' pin....it cannot be alocated in dash manager to anything... from what i'm reading, it should be the backlight pin on the backlit versions
