Denso (Toyota 2ZZ-GE) coil on plug connectors??

Postby Chris Wilson on Tue Feb 03, 2009 7:08 am

Not strictly Motec but I know this is now a popular coil on plug igniter, does anyone know either the Toyota or other part number for the connector plugs and pins, and where I can buy them please? Thanks, pics below:

Hello Chris,
We don't sell them here but you may be able to buy them from Toyota. I believe the idea is to ask for a repair section for the coil which should include a connector terminated with a length of wire.

Thanks MarkMc for the very fast reply!

For the record, should anyone search this, I have just been sent pictures of 1ZZ-GE coils which appear to have the exact same connector style, and the following info. I am ordering some tomorrow, I'll confirm they fit later in the week, hopefully :) Use at your own risk!

Here are the Toyota part numbers for the 1ZZ-FE coil pack connectors:

! x Connector: 90980-11885
Pins (x4): 82998-12440
Toyota connector pins with 160mm wire - Toyota P/N 82998-12340 (USD $4.43 each)
I have not used these, so I do not know how many are required - likely 4 per.

Pinout, looking into the coil connector moulding itself :

Left to right : Ground - Trigger - Tach - 12V

The dwell should be set as follows:
8V 6.3 ms
9V 5.3 ms
10V 4.4 ms
11V 3.8 ms
12V 3.2 ms
13V 2.7 ms
14V 2.4 ms
15V 2.2 ms

Thanks, I have edited the incorrect dwell out of my message. Appreciate the trouble you chaps take to support us users, it makes me glad of my choice of ECU, cheers.

Chris, Toyota only sells the pigtails for these connectors. You can purchase the terminals seperately from Ballenger motorsports. The terminals are a Sumitumo TS terminal 2.3 type 90. The seals can also be purchased from them. This ways you don't need to splice wiring between the pigtails and the harness.

Most of the Toyota stuff uses these terminals. The newer stuff has changed to something else. I'm still doing research on it.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

In racing applications, various Toyota engines have had isues with the terminals loosing tension due to either heat or vibration (or both).

I would recommend potting fly leads into the coils and running fly leads to a sealed connector.

The Toyota engines in the Japanese SuperGT series run their coils this way for this reason, along with Toyota Racing Series cars both in New Zealand and Japan.

Wonder if some smart company out there has made a coil with autosport connector on it... ;)

Do you guys know if the dwell times for the 1ZZ coil packs (part 90080-19015) are the same please? Struggling to find any decent intel...

i know this is an old post but i've been racing with a 2ZZ for almost 10 years and never had a coil wiring problem with the stock connectors.
