I don't think you have the properties of your Track Report setup correctly. See the example above where they set the Track Colour -- you need to do that with your calculated Gain/Loss.

Thanks for the help so far!!

Have you looked at the Variance 1 channel on a graph? I can't believe the variance would be in the range of 200 seconds (which is why you are probably only seeing the "too small" color. Perhaps you need to change the scaling of the Variance 1 channel? At least look at it on a graph to make sure it's generating the expected values, then work on displaying it as a rainbow track map.

Also, your math channel doesn't use Running Lap Time, so I don't think it will work. The Running Lap Time needs to be incrementing as you go through the lap (like Lap Distance does).

Personally, without the ability to generate the data channels you need to do this, I think you are going to be out of luck.

This is the graph of the calc. lap time (which is now in my math) and lap distance. As you can see that output is what is expected right?

Somehow the short white line is my 'variance1' channel which has a strange output

Hello Martijn,

I've tried to do exactly the same Variance Track Map as you tried few months ago (and Google brought me here).

How are you calculating your "Variance"?
In my case, I am simply doing "variance_dist('LapCurrentLapTime' [s])". As explained in the Function Help, "variance_dist(x)" calculates the difference between the main lap and the overlay/s selected. So, obviously, you need to select two different laps to make your "Variance" calculated channel to work.

This seems to be a problem when trying to use this channel in a Track Report. Here, you have one (track) line for each lap selected. I think that it is required by the Track Report tool that the channel you want to plot, has to be able to work without the requiriment of having two laps selected. From my point of view is easy to understand but hard to explain (and maybe I'm wrong).
Of course, it doesn't work even if you select two laps (this only creates a new white line at the Track Report).
I have tried as well to create a new channel called "Variance V2" that is simply equal to my calculated "Variance_V1", but it's useless to do it.
Additionally, I've tried to do something like " 'LapCurrentLapTime' [s] - ref:'LapCurrentLapTime' [s]" (I've read that "ref:" uses the value of the overlay lap data) but it doesn't work neither.

The only possible solution that comes to my head is to create an external function (using c++ or similar) and use it in Motec (Maths window>Add plugin).

PD. Avoid to name the calculated variance channel simply as "Variance". This seems to bring some problems when plotting the default Variance (F3 key)

I have added a ticket to our feature request list to allow the 'Variance' channel to be usable just like any other maths or logged channel.

Hello Adrian,

Thank you for your quick reply and for the comments.
Hope that this will solve the problem! I'll test it when the new version is available and write here the results!
Thank you again,

Javier
