The firmware in the ECU can be upgraded with your version of the ECU manager using the menu Utilities->Upgrade ECU Version...

However, I suggest that you should really first install the ECU manager to match the firmware in the device (you can have several versions of ECU manager installed and use the correct one for a specific ECU.
