Trouble receiving PDM standard messages

Postby 52pickup on Wed Sep 06, 2017 11:51 am

Not sure if this should be here or in the PDM forum, but this one seems more active so I'll start here

I've been trying to get my C187 to log my PDM information, but I've been having trouble. I'm using the standard message transmit from the PDM, and the PDM receive templates, but can't get data. I've tried different addresses to no avail. Getting 512 no matter what I do. I can transmit and receive custom messages no problem, only having this issue with the standard messages.

Is there a resource that shows the PDM standard message CAN information so I can confirm everything is correct? Am I overlooking something?

Hi,

Can you check that the PDM is setup to transmit the standard messages correctly.

A 512 message is saying that the device is not receiving any data on the address specified.

Are there any other devices on the CAN Bus? Is it on the correct bus?

Yes. Tried with just the wanted data checked, I've tried with all of it checked, I've tried different types of data to receive. Additionally, I'm running two PDMs and I'm having the same issue with both, but only on standard messages.

ETA- on the bus:

C125
C187
M800
IEX x2
DBW4
PDM x2
keypad x3

What address do you have the standard messages set to and does this match the dash? By default this should be 0x500 in the PDM and the PDM receive templates in the dash so will only be an issue if you have changed something.

The other thing is if you have two PDM's on the same CAN bus and don't change the address on one of them it will cause bus errors. The second PDM should be set to 0x510 if you want it to match the PDM 2 templates in the dash.

If you send me your two PDM configs and your C187 config I can test it here to see whats going on. You can send to support@motec.com.au if you don't wish to post them here.

I've had them at 0x500 and 0x510, and I've also tried moving them up out of the range of all the other PDM comms "just in case" there was too much going on down in the 0x500-530 range with no change, always making sure that address matched on both ends.

I've left the shop for the day, but I will contact you tomorrow with files. I'm sure it's probably something silly I'm just overlooking.
