M4-8 v6.2 software incompatibility

Postby macro d on Tue Aug 08, 2017 11:11 pm

Hi all,
I have aquired a second m48 for a project 4age.
The unit is a black case badged m4-8.
Currently have a gold case in a vehicle running and connecting to laptop in emp 6.2d.

The black case ecu plugged in and ignition on outputs a fuel pump prime. It produces the error in the attached image.

The ecu has been bench tested by a local dealer in Adelaide who achieved connection and was able to see full emp adjustment screens.
When initially plugged into the vehicle and my laptop (emp 6.20d), pci plugged in it achieved connection briefly showing the serial number but then promptly gave the connection error as per photo.

Following the brief connection, every time i have tried to connect, I get the same error.

Is it possible the com port settings in xp may be incorrect for the earlier type of m4-8?
Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure its a M4-8?

I only remember black M4's which were revision A. The black ECU's have no lambda and less logging than the gold box M4's. The REF/Sync inputs are also different requiring different setup.

Hi SprinterTRD,

This is a black case, white backed Red Motec Sticker on the top of the case.
End of ECU sticer:
MoTeC M4-8
Serial 9508 074 EPS B2
Made in Australia
Connected the the Adelaide dealers laptop, the EMP appeared as functional as it does with my laptop connected to my gold box M48.

Dimensionally it is comparative to the later model Gold Box.

The software(emp 6.2d) has been uninstalled, reinstalled. Earlier versions of emp installed result in software version being incorrect.

OK thats a really early one, the 74th one made.

If you have a SUU I would upgrade the ECU with the version you have on your laptop and send your file to it after the upgrade.

I would suggest doing this directly from the M48V62 directory and run the "send" program. Doing this will ignore whats in the ECU however requires the serial port to be assigned to COM1.

Once you have upgraded the ecu use EMP to send your file.

Ok, so long overdue for an update.
Purchased an SUU for myself and connected to ECU.

In the 6.2 folder, run the send.exe
Data block
passes up to 11633 then closes.

Open empQ.exe
Great Success!!

Can confirm serial number is 74.
No upgrades or logging.
Logging is only 128kb as mentioned by SprinterTRD

As far as I have yet to have experienced, no issues with Sync/Ref setup.
Just uploaded my E85 map and the 4AGTE fired up first go, lambda looked correct on warm-up.

Thanks to the forum for your assistance (SprinterTRD). Greatly appreciated.
Soon to be another AE86 running MoTeC (changing over a JDM bigport computer)
