New to motec ecu

Postby ninophat on Tue Feb 28, 2017 1:49 pm

Hi everyone i have a query with regards to starting a 2jzgte non vvti.. My tuner who is currently building my motor is new to motec. He hasnt had any experience with standalone ecus however he had worked on apexi safc, emanage ecu and some piggyback ecu.

Some info
Rig: Ma70 supra dedicated drag car
Ecu motec m84
Motor is 2jzgte nonvvti
Cams 272 gsc cams and uprated springs
Borg warner turbo s376 externally wastegated
Weldon fuel pump
1600cc bosch low impedance injectors

My questions are:
1. Do i need a start up file for a 2jzgte motor?
2. With regards to ref and sync which i dont know much about. Is it sufficient to use the crank angle sensor to start the motor? Or need to use the cam sensors too?
3. Do i need to buy hall effect sensors or trigger wheels just to start the motor?

Thank you

Chris

Hi Christopher,

If you have the information needed, you do not need a start-up file, and sometimes that can be a hindrance if the specifications of the engines are different.

You need to have both the Ref and Sync sensors connected to get the engine to start.

You should not need to add any sensors or trigger wheels to the engine to get it to work, as the 2JZ engine was fuel injected from the factory, and will have the sensors already on it.

Cool. Thanks for the quick reply. So information means the base map? The stuff like timing and other parameters to start the engine are the things that i need to find out. Am i correct?

The information to start the engine is found pre-installed in the m84? Thank you stephen for your patience on these. Cheers

Hi Chris,

The information needed is things like;

Injector and Ignition coil calibrations
Sensor (Water and Air temp, Manifold Pressure, etc.) calibrations
Ref/Sync Mode and CRiP

Some of this information will be in the M84, not specifically for your engine, but areas like the temp sensors have only a few different calibrations that are easy to test to find a matching one. Pressure sensors are generally a linear scale, so you can read the voltage at atmosphere and then apply a known pressure to it and then read the voltage, this will generate the scale that can be compared with the stored calibrations to find the correct calibration.

The Ref/Sync mode should be the correct one in the file that I sent to you, you will need to do a Ref/Sync Capture to confirm this.
