Gear Display "N"

Discussion on the use of Display creator software for MoTeC Colour displays

Gear Display "N"

Postby FoxSTI on Wed Aug 10, 2016 6:01 am

I have configured a "New Channel Value" to display the gear I am in.
0,1,2,3,4,5,6

Is it possible to have it show N rather then Zero like the factory displays?
Thank you

Sure enter "N" instead of zero.

that doesn't work... unless I am doing something incorrectly.

The gear channel's format is Numeric..

Are you doing this in Display Creator? If so then you should use an Enumerator and set the displayed value of 'N' for a channel value of 0.

If this is in dash manager, it will be done automatically when the channel value is 0.

How did you get this to work?

I have a C187 in our Porsche GT3R and it displays 0 when in neutral and 7 when in reverse. These values come from the CAN information coming from the Bosch MS4 ecu it runs. Is there a way to change these without creating a new display with Display Creator?

Look in any of the Display Creator examples -- they all show the enumeration to get "R" and "N" to display. If you're not using display creator, then perhaps you could post your config (in another forum section / topic) and we could give you detailed hints on getting this working.

so my gear display is based on speed and gear ratios. Its cool but not really useful at the track.
What I need to do is find a way to make a "real" gear indicator - and what I mean is something wish a switch (hall sensors maybe?) that will give a signal when the level is in place.

What I find is that it takes a few seconds for the C125 to update the gear otherwise (just the way it works as result of having to wait to speed and RPM to do the math).

What do you have set as your Acceptance Delay in the Gear Detection Setup page? you could try reducing the value, and see if this helps with getting the Gear display to come up quicker.

Installing sensors into the gear selection mechanism on a H pattern gearbox to be able to detect the location of the selector forks is not going to be an easy task.
