Something else that might help if you can't get it on the roof and it is still causing you problems is to mount it to a metal plate about 200mm x 200mm in size.

These antennas usually work best when they are attached to a good ground plane, which is usually achieved by mounting to a metal roof.

That might be why my previous one was pretty good. The trim panel it was attached to was steel, about 20CM deep and the full width of the windscreen. Hopefully meaning my C127 will behave itself as well.

I wanted to update:

I am getting 9-10 GPS satellites.
I went to the track this weekend and laps were fine as far as I could tell.
