M800 - REF/SYNC problems

Postby LOLA-Christian on Thu Aug 25, 2016 3:43 am

Hi all,
I have a lab setup with a M800 which is supplied with crank & cam pulses from a simulator that a friend of mine has built based on "some Arduino" (excuse me, I do not know more.... :) ).
It works fine, get RPM readings which means that I can test various AUX outputs.
BUT, it will not sync so I am not able to test ign & fuel outputs.
I have played around with various settings in REF/SYNC setup, but..... :|
A screen dump may perhaps give someone a clue of what is wrong (or if it is even possible to get it working....):

Any help is much appreciated :P

A partial screen dump of an incomplete 720 scope trace wont really help much...and then without knowing

Rising edge might be better for that sync, falling edge for the ref.

Thanks Stevie, tried your settings for REF/SYNC, but no difference - M800 diagnosis still says
Error Sync Signal
and
Ref/Sync SyncroniseNotSYNCED

FYI you don't need an external signal generator to get ref/sync on an Mx00. You can run a constant RPM using looped outputs.

Set up 2 outputs to loop into ref and sync. In this case let them be ign 5 and 6.

Crank ref teeth = 2
logic level for both ref and sync types.

Ign 5 into ref, set freq to 100, min DC 0% max 50%
Ign 6 into sync, freq 25, min DC 0% max 25%

Set both tables to 100% DC, now you have 3000 RPM with a random sync position that doesn't vary.

ref output signal, 4 stroke, 100Hz = 3000 RPM, 200Hz = 6k, you can change tooth count and sync DC% to get many different RPM values. In this example we have 2 teeth per rev, so ref freq is 100 and sync freq would be ref freq/ tooth count per cycle.

Hello Christian

Try changing the Ref Sync Mode to 7 (not 8), use rising edge for the sync and set up the mag level tables correctly, in particular the sync table (currently set to 0.0V for some reason). The help for the mag level tables gives information on how to set them according to the signal levels.

Hi Allan,
many thanks - following your advice, it worked just fine.
Simulator has a max output of 10 000 rpm, no error up to that level.
