M84 2JZGTE VVTi Startup File

I've got an M84 on a 2JZGTE not VVTi but I've installed a 36-2 wheel.

Tried using 33 and 28, swapped the front and rear cam sensors, changed trigger edges like a million times. Crip was degreed to almost every angle. With all these different combinations she don't want to start.

Yes, I'm sure the wiring is correct because it runs on Mode 8, which forces it to run semi-sequential (I guess).

Can you guys forward me a startup file for 36-2 2jz

Mode 7 is actually correct mode for 36-2 + 1 Sink tooth.

A 4 stroke cycle is 2 crank rotations so mode 7 is 2 Missing teeth twice per cycle

Thanks, I'll try mode 7.

If I defined the number of cylinders as 6 instead of 36, would it run sequential using mode 7?

Setting the cylinders to 36 forces the ECU to equate an engine cycle into 360 degree mode regardless of the ref/sync mode. For sequential injection cylinders should be 6

Why have you set it to 36?

I chose 36 to narrow down problems. This is what I used to do with other ECUs so that I could eliminate the cam sensor and rid myself of them syncing together. I will try 6 cylinders and see if it functions correct.

I don't know why my setup works on mode 8 and not 7. There is no spark on mode 7. Mode 7 is 2 missing teeth twice per cycle and Mode 8 is 2 missing teeth once per cycle. If cycle refers to half a 4 stroke revolution (360 deg) that mode 8 should be correct. But does cycle mean that or does it mean a complete 720 deg revolution.

Cycle = 720 deg 4 stroke complete cycle.

To expand on Scotts answer: A 4 stroke cycle happens in 720 degree therefore you end up with 2 missing teeth twice per cycle.

If you are not getting ignition when set to mode 7 then your sync sensor is not working.

Do a ref/sync capture and see what is going on.

FYI the setups 'X missing/additional once cycle' are for scenarios where the sensor is cam driven, and thus you don't need an additional sync for 4 stroke.

When I choose Mode 8, I have to specify number of cylinders as 36, which indicates it is running waste spark.

When I choose Mode 7, I have to specify number of cylinders as 6, which indicates it is running sequential.

Mode 8 doesn't work with 36 and Mode 7 doesn't work with 6. Timing is perfect on both these settings.

I was pretty happy with the Mode 8 except that I'm having a strange problem with the fueling.

This is my first Motec experience although I have tuned many cars on other ecus. In the beginning I chose the below settings:

IJPU was 10
Injector angle was 320 ~ 360
Injector size was 6000 (1000cc x 6)
Battery comp was as per spec for ID1000

This setup with a base fuel table taken from somewhere flooded the plugs until I hooked up lambda and began to play with various settings to bring down the fuel. I finally was able to find a sweet spot which was idling at 11 ~ 12 afr so left it there. If I try to reduce the fueling by changing a cell value lets say 22 to 21 nothing much happens; I take it down further to 20 nothing much happens, then I take it down to 19.5 and boom it goes from 11 afr to 17 afr and dies on me. I'm sure something is wrong so I tried all these stuff:

Reducing IJPU allows me to go for bigger numbers in the table. Changing injector angle changes the tone but doesn't change much with the afr. Reducing battery comp allows me to increase the number obviously because the effective pw decreases. Injector size doesn't make any difference at all and I think it is normal based on what I've read across some threads? When I fed in the Battery comp figures as per the spec for ID1000 at 43 psi I had to literally use 8 across the idling cells at 10 IJPU. Something doesn't sound right here! I was doubting the injectors but they are brand new. I also checked the resistance and it was 12 indicating high impedance which I have specified.

This is why I though maybe I have something wrong with my trigger settings so I was checking different modes out. But I am having no sync loss and when left at 12 afr it idles perfect and revs up without any hesistance.

I also doubted my lambda so I quickly tested in 2 cars and found it flawless. You don't need a lambda to know that at 20, 21 and 22 it behaves the same and suddenly at 19.5 it goes so lean that it stalls.

Please help me guys as I'm running out of solutions. Also see the attached file which includes my latest settings.

A common problem with first-time Motec setups is getting the injectors and ignition wiring correct. The M84 must have the coils & injectors wired in firing order, not cylinder number. Yes, I know there is a table for firing order, but this is just used to help the injector diagnostics and individual table label the cylinder numbers. The base operation is always sequential order.
