Control of Linear Solenoid with ADL3

Postby kylebroslowski on Thu Aug 04, 2016 7:10 am

Hi,

on my bike is a electronic steering damper mounted, now with the M130 instead of the OEM ECU installed, I don't have the control over the steering damper. I assume it will be controlled by a PWM Signal, with a Change of duty cycle and frequency in dependence to acceleration.

I would like to set up this PWM with the ADL3, so I like to ask if any one have a kind of map or 2D table of what duty cycle/ frequency and Amplitude in dependence to acceleration should be suffent.

Cheers, Mike

I've had a bit of an ask around and we don't have any information on setting up a damper like this. Our UK office may have some information as they deal with bikes a lot more than we do here in Australia.

A couple of things to note, the tables in the ADL3 are only updated at 25Hz so if you are trying to do any control based on acceleration or some other fancy control you might have some issues. If you are just changing the duty cycle based on vehicle speed then you should be fine. Do you know what sort of current the device draws? The Aux outputs of the dash are limited at 0.5A so if the device requires more than this you will need a solid state relay in between.

Thanks Adrian for your Input. I already talked to the guys in UK, but they also don't have experience with that.
But I found someone in the German Fireblade Forum who was able to measure the signal on his bike, so I hope I can adapt that to a 2D or 3D table with the dash. I expect no complicated table, because I found some Information on the Internet that the electric steering damper works dependent on speed and acceleration values and if I remind myself right, first Derivation shouldn't be a problem for the dash.

If you have another ideas, I would appreciate your thoughts!

Best regards, Mike
