Odometer does not match car miles?

Postby FoxSTI on Wed Apr 27, 2016 8:20 am

I am requesting the odometer reading on my C125. It is off by 4,xxx miles. Its showing 10K where is should show 14,500. Am I missing something? (besides brains lol).

Is the dash odometer reading something else I am mistaking for my cars odometer?
Thank you

As far as I know the Odo is internally generated in the dash so not coming from your car (Unless that is different in an OBD setup) It is internally generated in mine.

If it is internally generated you could cheat it up to the right reading by hooking up to the dash with the dash manager software, run the simulation mode and put in a high speed reading (Say 250KMH) which through the speed and distance calculations should increment the odo pretty rapidly. Run that for a period of time and you should see the reading you are looking for.

On the other hand, the Odo is passworded so I presume it is possible for Motec to set it manually, but the dash might have to go off to them for that. The password may also only be protecting a reset function not a manual preset function.

Your error amount is close to the conversion from mile to km. Could that be it?

Let me check on the units. Because if the Odo is related to the distance the dash has been used, then MoTeC east sent me a used unit. I have only had it for 2 weeks and this is not a daily driver car.. The dash has no more then 80 miles.

PS: Well I just checked the dash settings and it set to : mile(mile).. I will call tomorrow if I have time.

So I called motec east today. I was told that the miles I'm showing are a result of the "demo" calibration these devices ship with. They offered to reset my dash. Apparently it's a known "bug". My dash should have arrived work zero miles being new. (I'm sure it is)

So the odometer reading is not the cars mileage.

Ah, that may be why mine shows about 60km as well. I switched off generation of the odometer in any case as it is not relevant on a track car.

If you want to bring it up to match your cars actual mileage you could still check that it is being generated in your configuration, then run the speed up in the simulation mode to increment it until the dash shows what the car should show.

We can also, with suitable evidence, set the odometer to match the cars current distance where it is required for registration purposes.

Is the dash incrementing properly when the car is driven? or does it over/under read the values?

I guess the read question for me at this time is: if my dash is brand new, regardless of the demo putting on miles or not, how does it have 10K. Was my dash used as a sales display that was connected and always running ? It usually takes 12 months to get 12K miles. So did I buy a demo / display unit at full price?

I can not recall what speed reading it ran up to in the demo mode, however when playing with mine I generated a 300kmh speed reading, it does not take very long to wind on the distance that way when it would add a kilometer every 12 seconds.

Or if as they said there is a bug related to the demo setup, maybe the reading is totally spurious?
