ECU Advise Supra 2JZGTE

Postby CarloL on Mon Apr 11, 2016 6:13 am

Hi

I contact 3 Motec dealers and no reply

Car Toyota
Model Supra (JZA80)
Engine: 2JZGTE 6MTM (JDM) NON-VVTI
  • inline-layout,
  • six-cylinder,
  • belt-driven dual-overhead camshaft,
  • air-intercooled,
  • twin-turbocharged
  • OEM JSPEC Turbos (Ceramic)
  • Tomei 264 Poncams

I would like

  • Engine Protection Strategies :Oil pressure, knock
  • Wideband Lambda
  • Boost controlled via the ECU
  • Retain the Sequential OEM Turbo setup (http://mkiv.com/93-98-twin-turbo-faqs-2/#turbosystem1)
  • Future plans : Maybe a single turbo conversion if the OEM Turbos become exhausted but still retaining 6 injectors versus running 12

I have narrowed it down to

  • M84 -- Would be ideal but Lacks Knock control & Individual cylinder tables
  • M600 with SKM add on (Would SKM be beneficial?)
  • M800( Has an Onboard Knock Module (OKM) maybe more cost effective than the M600 & SKM)
  • M130

From what I can see there is a big price gap between 100 Series and the new M1 series with a GPA/GPR package

Confused what ECU to use?

Easy - the M130 is the future. Tuning software is much more powerful, cost is usually less than an option'ed out hundred series. Per cylinder knock control built in.

My recommendation would be the M150 over the M130 on a 6 cylinder engine, as this will allow for future expansion is needed, where as the M130 can be short on resources with 6 or more cylinders.

The only M800's that have an OKM are the OEM replacement boards for the WRX and EVO's, the standard "Gold Boxes" require the use of a SKM for knock control.

I have a M130 on a V6. In the ideal world I would have gone for an M150 but budget doesn't allow. The problem is an M130 is equivalent to M800 etc, but one you get into the M130 there are so many things it CAN do you start getting greedy!

To give you an idea, my M130 will be doing sequential injection and ignition, flat shift, paddle shift, single or dual knock, DBW, dual lambda via CAN. The drawback is only a single rear wheel speed sensor and no exhaust temp. I am getting round some of the issues by using CAN (CDL3, MDD, LTCD)....so fine for me.

Thanks Guys , I was doing some more research last night and found an M130/M150 PNP Supra Kit by John Reed Racing
M1 series is a no brainer

I downloaded the M1 Tune/Build software , straight away I felt comfortable in the Motec environment . First impression was a strong correlation with software development; coding parameters, custom modules to get the device to perform a function ; I presume you can do full-scale custom code modules? In what language I am not sure , what framework the M1 series is based on , .NET c# or Java .... ?

What I really like , I am sure whoever setup the Motec M1 Ecosytem has strong ties with Software development framework , redistributables i.e. redistributable packages (M1 builds / firmwares)

So far I am playing around with different calibration modules , just took a look at the M1 Build software to create a custom package for the unit ; once you get familiar with the environment it will be a powerful platform to build upon!
So far I am impressed , it is literally a blank canvas to work off!

I can get a PNP kit from the States for the Supra , I am in the Ireland, I heard Motec look upon it as a grey import and there may be issues as such?

That is the good about the M1 series. You can kick off withe a ready made package from Motec or a partner to get things running....and then go to a custom build later if you need too...either DIY or from a partner.

Have you emailed John Reed or perhaps someone a bit local? I use Race Data Systems in the UK...despite the small amount of money I have spent with them Nathan has been incredibly helpful.

Thanks!

Just contacted Cody Philips last nite (who is selling the PNP kit with John Reed via Supra Forums); I was hoping to get Cody to make up a PNP loom and buy the ECU local

I was in contact with TDP here in Ireland, Dave Rowe and Fraser Mac Kellar ; some it is 5 working days and others 10 working days so far, no replies ; tried Phone ,Email , and facebook

Will look into Race Data Systems in the UK Thanks!

Just noticed about the wideband and Narrowband lambda

[*] I have a new innovate LC2 , would I be better selling on and getting the LTC Motec unit?
[*] Should I be concerned the M130 does not support Narrow Lambda?

The Motec LTC makes more sense....free up an io pin.

You don't want narrow band anyway...wide is better.
