ADL and M400 communication setup.

Postby david_willems13 on Mon Feb 29, 2016 9:46 am

Hey, had a bit of experience with these systems, but I'm struggling a little bit on getting my original ADL and M400 communicating through CAN such that O2, RPM, TPS etc, can be logged through the ADL with a range of other sensors I'm running already into the ADL.

I am fairly convinced my wiring harness is alright, as I have managed to communicate and log successfully through the ADL and M400 individually (through the single CAN bus), but I think I have a problem with the communication configuration through both ECU Manager and ADL manager.

This is the configuration I'm running, where you can see the setup on both the ADL and M400 side of things, on the ADL I am running custom data set exported from the ECU manager.

Not really sure about configuring the CAN address on the M400 side, or the Baud rate, async device and a few other things.

Can anyone offer any insight if they have managed to get this working?

You want to send a custom set from the M400 to the ADL to log the data? Are you sending anything from the ADL to the M400? Actually , are you sending anything at all to the ECU via CAN?

By the looks of things you have the ADL setup to receive a custom CAN template, but you are not actually sending one out of the ECU. If you select the 'MoTeC M800 Set 1" template in the ADL it should work with your current ECU configuration.

Hey Sean, I am not currently sending anything from the ADL to M400 or visa versa, attempting to send data from M400 to ADL though to log RPM/O2/few other things.

CAN is wired up for them to communicate, but so far has only been used to setup each one individually, can't manage to make them communicate

Hmm... I originally had the ADL set to the 'MoTeC M800 Set 1" template (without touching any of the advanced options at all) and still couldn't seem to read anything...

The M400 has the option enabled for "ADL Dash Logger" on CAN 0, and "ADL Receive" on CAN 1. The ADL only appears to have CAN 1-6 however (not CAN 0), so is set to communicate through CAN 1, not sure if that is part of my problem.

With the ECU setup to have CAN 0 Data = 1 and CAN 0 Address = 1520 (like you have it), the standard "MoTeC M800 Set 1" template will work without changing anything.

There is a channel called "Comms CAN 1 Diag" that is created as part of that template, what is the value of this channel when you have it all wired up but isn't working?

The 'CAN1-6' on the ADL is just the number of the template. It is all on the same CAN bus.

Hey Adrian, I set the ADL template back to "MoTeC M800 Set 1", the Comms CAN 1 Diag has a value of 0 with everything switched on and sitting there.

A value of 0 for the Comms Diag channel means it is receiving data on the right address. Is it still not working?
